I am Julie Minbiole (nee Karr), Associate Professor in the Science + Mathematics department at Columbia College Chicago. I completed my PhD at the University of Illinois at Chicago in Chicago, Illinois (2009) in the laboratory of Dr. David Featherstone. My teaching work at Columbia ranges from Introductory Biology, to Sensation and Perception to Honors Genetics. I also currently coordinate the Biology minor at Columbia College. My research interests focus on incorporation of new pedagogical interventions and improving course design to promote engagement and success of non-majors biology populations, increasing scientific literacy in non-majors, as well as the development and maintenance of the glutamatergic synapse utilizing Drosophila as a model system in collaboration with Dr. Featherstone.
